THE GALLEY

One Year - One Barge - One Goal

A female lead project aspiring to create a floating bakery and provide support to women from all walks of life.
Being based in the galley of the Sailing Barge May, the bakery will create sourdough produce for our guests and in time, to be pre-ordered for collection when May arrives in a port near you.
Sailing Barge May was built in Harwich by Canns in 1891 to carry grain and flour for her owners the Millers Cranfields. She remained in this work until being sold to Tate & Lyle in the 1960's. A history connected to basic baking ingredients stretching over 120 years of her 130, we think it makes perfect sense to keep that connection going.
So we are giving it a year, to see if others might also see and want to realise this vision with us.

'Give us Bread but give us Roses too..'

The Galley is where the kettle is put on

for the cups that are ready

to offer a warm welcome

for all who come aboard our May

to pause just for a while

Basic Ingredients

It is important to us that the ingredients we will be using are sourced from producers who care.

Working with a number of passionate souls we will be building up the network of producers, millers, bakers and transporters.

We will keep you updated

Baking on a Barge

The galley will be producing sourdough bread on a regular basis once we are underway.

In the meantime we are hosting regular baking opportunities which we will be taking enquiries for.
