Using reclaimed red satin, you will be guided through the process of making a 1930's style Rememberance poppy. Making individual petals with singed edges - the traditional method used to create artificial fabric flowers - you will gradually build a beautiful poppy flower.

About the event
We are delighted to host the first in a series of Winter Wellbeing Workshops aboard Thames Sailing Barge May. Below deck and sat snuggly around our beautiful table, you will be able to relax and enjoy the creative process of making a 1930's style Poppy.
You will be guided through the process one step at a time - cutting out then shaping individual satin petals using a traditional singing method. After building up the poppy petals, they will be stitched in place using basic stitches in embroidery silk. Adding the distinctive black centre using vintage lace and a button, your poppy will be ready to attach to a brooch fixing. You can choose whether you'd like to add a leaf that is carefully cut from wool felt - a recognisable feature of Remembrance Poppies that was introduced as an optional extra in the 1960's.
